De roodoogmakikikker is een amfibiesoort die in bomen leeft in de tropische regenwouden van Midden-Amerika. Vrouwtjes zijn groter dan mannetjes, maar ze hebben dezelfde tekening. Zoals de naam doet vermoeden heeft de roodoogmakikikker felle rode ogen met zwarte pupillen. Het bovenlijf en de voorpoten van de kikker zijn lichtgroen, zodat hij, als hij zich opkrult en zijn ogen sluit, perfect gecamoufleerd is tussen de bladeren waarop hij leeft. De roodoogmakikikker heeft felblauwe flanken met een geel netpatroon en blauwe dijen. Hij heeft oranje tenen en een lichte buik.
