Het dwergnijlpaard (of Hexaprotodon liberiensis) is een middelgroot zoogdier dat voorkomt in de regenwouden en moerassen van Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinee en Ivoorkust. Ze hebben een grijs-bruine huid, kleine oren en stevige poten met vier tenen. Je vindt ze meestal bij rivieren waar ze het merendeel van de tijd in de modder rollen en slapen. Ze zijn gemiddeld 75 tot 100 cm hoog en 150 tot 175 cm lang. Ze wegen tussen de 180 en 275 kg.
