Het Chinees schubdier (of Manis pentadactyla) is een met uitsterven bedreigde insecteneter uit India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Taiwan en Zuid-China. Het zijn kleine, schuwe, trage dieren met als meest opvallende kenmerk hun gelaagde, pantserachtige schubben van keratine. Chinese schubdieren zijn tussen de 40 en 58 cm lang en hebben een staart die tussen de 25 en 38 cm lang is. Overdag slapen ze in holen en 's nachts gaan ze op zoek naar mieren, termieten en andere insecten.
