De vari (of Varecia variegata) is een primaat die leeft in de oostelijke regenwouden van Madagaskar. Het dier heeft een in het oog springende, zwart-witte vacht: de onderzijde, kop, voeten en staart zijn zwart en de ledematen, rug en opvallende 'kraag' zijn wit. Vari's worden zo'n 50 cm tot 55 cm lang en hebben een staart van ongeveer 60 cm. Net als andere maki's zijn de vrouwtjes ietsje groter dan de mannetjes.
