De babiroesa van Noord-Sulawesi is een varkenssoort die voorkomt op het Indonesische eiland Sulawesi en een aantal kleine omliggende eilanden. De babiroesa van Noord-Sulawesi is nagenoeg kaal en heeft een grijze huid. Mannelijke babiroesa's hebben vier grote slagtanden die omkrullen naar hun schedel. De babiroesa van Noord-Sulawesi is 85 tot 110 cm lang, heeft een staart van 29 tot 32 cm en een schofthoogte van 58 tot 66 cm. Het mannetje weegt tussen de 70 en 100 kg en het vrouwtje tussen de 45 en 80 kg.

‘Babirusa’ means ‘pig deer’ in Malay.
Babirusas have a two chambered stomach, more like that of sheep than of other pigs.
The male babirusas tusks continue to grow throughout his life and can even grow into the skull.
Babirusas are missing a bone in the snout that other pigs have, so they do not engage in ‘rooting’ behaviour typical of pigs.
Babirusas are excellent swimmers; it is thought that they are found across various Indonesian islands because they swam to them.
