Come tutte le specie di lemuri, il lemure dalla coda ad anelli (o Lemur catta) รจ originario del Madagascar e non si trova in nessun'altra parte del mondo. Il lemure dalla coda ad anelli ha il muso a punta, orecchie come quelli dei gatti e una lunga coda con 12 o 13 anelli bianchi, 13 o 14 anelli neri e la punta sempre nera. Misurano solitamente tra i 39 e i 46 centimetri, con la coda che va dai 56 ai 63 centimetri. Vivono, cercano cibo e si spostano insieme in gruppi chiamati 'truppe'. I lemuri dalla coda ad anelli sono onnivori e mangiano frutta, foglie, insetti e qualsiasi cibo su cui riescono a mettere le zampe.
