Die Australische Großschabe (Macropanesthia rhinoceros) ist das größte Insekt, das im Buschland und in den trockenen Wäldern des Nordens von Australien heimisch ist. Die Tiere erreichen eine Länge von acht Zentimetern, wiegen bis zu 30 Gramm und besitzen eine dunkle, rotbraune Färbung. Die Schaben wühlen sich durch den sandigen Untergrund und gelangen so oft bis zu einen Meter tief ins Erdreich. Sie sind beliebte Haustiere, da sie relativ wenig Pflege erfordern und nichts dagegen haben, wenn man mit ihnen hantiert.
