De brilbeer (of Tremarctos ornatus) is een middelgrote beer die voorkomt in het Andesgebergte in Zuid-Amerika. De dieren hebben een zwarte, dikke vacht met witte markeringen op hun gezicht en borst. Als enige nog levende telg van het geslacht Tremarctos heeft de brilbeer een relatief vlak gezicht, vergeleken met dat van andere beersoorten. Net zoals andere beren zijn brilberen seksueel dimorf: het vrouwtje is veel kleiner dan het mannetje. Mannetjes hebben een schofthoogte van 76 cm tot 91 cm en wegen tussen de 100 en 200 kg, terwijl vrouwtjes 60 tot 73 cm hoog zijn en slechts 35 tot 82 kg wegen.
