De koninginnenpage (of Papilio machaon) is een vlinder die voorkomt in de gematigde regio's, bossen en zelfs op de toendra's van Europa, Azië en Noord-Amerika. De vlinder heeft lichtgele vleugels met een grijszwart patroon op de voorvleugels en blauwzwarte accenten en rode oogvlekken op de achtervleugels. Aan de achtervleugels zit ook een langwerpig, zwart gekleurd aanhangsel dat vleugelstaart of -slip wordt genoemd. Vroeger werd als Nederlandse naam ook wel zwaluwstaart gebruikt. Er is geen verschil in uiterlijk tussen de mannetjes en de vrouwtjes. De gemiddelde spanwijdte is 6,5 tot 8,6 cm. De rups heeft een gedrongen, geelgroen lijf met zwarte en oranje markeringen op elk lichaamssegment.
