De Cuviers gladvoorhoofdkaaiman is een kleine krokodillensoort die voorkomt in rivieren en moerassen in de bossen van noordelijk Zuid-Amerika. Het uiterlijk van deze soort verandert bij het ouder worden. Kaaimannen hebben grote, uitpuilende, bruine (incidenteel gele) ogen. De mannetjes zijn gemiddeld 1,3 tot 1,5 m lang en de vrouwtjes gemiddeld 1,15 m. Ze wegen meestal tussen de 6 en 7 kg.
