Lo gnu dalla coda bianca (o Connochaetes gnou) è una grande specie di ungulato originario dell'Africa meridionale, anche conosciuto come "gnu" per via del verso che emette quando viene spaventato. Questa specie è riconoscibile da un manto marrone-nero e corna a forma di L e il maschio è più scuro e grande rispetto alla femmina. Entrambi i sessi hanno una folta criniera, una lunga coda simile a quella dei cavalli, misurano tra i 1,7 e 2,2 metri di lunghezza, sono alti tra i 1,06 e i 1,21 metri al garrese e pesano tra i 120 e i 193 chili.
