Il procione (o Procyon lotor) è un mammifero di media grandezza originario del Nord America. Ha il pelo ruvido grigio-marrone, una lunga coda nera ad anelli, il muso a punta e un caratteristico motivo attorno agli occhi spesso chiamato "maschera". I procioni hanno zampe anteriori molto agili che utilizzano come mani. I procioni sono lunghi tra 41 e 70 centimetri, con la coda che aggiunge tra 19 e 40 centimetri al totale. I maschi sono più grandi delle femmine e pesano tra 2,5 e 10,4 chili, mentre le femmine pesano tra 1,8 e 7,5 chili. Le dimensioni e il peso possono cambiare molto in base alla sottospecie, al clima e al periodo dell'anno.
