Il vombato comune (o Vombatus ursinus), noto anche come vombato dal pelo ruvido, è un marsupiale diffuso nella macchia e nei boschi dell'Australia sud-orientale e della Tasmania. È di stazza robusta e rotonda, con zampe corte e muscolose e il muso tozzo. Il corpo è ricoperto di pelo ruvido grigio-marrone. Il vombato comune è lungo tra 90 e 115 centimetri da muso a groppa e pesa tra 22 e 39 chili. Tra maschio e femmina non ci sono differenze evidenti nell'aspetto.
