La lince europea (o Lynx lynx) è un felino di media grandezza che si trova nelle foreste temperate e boreali oltre che sulle montagne di Europa e Asia. Ha una corporatura robusta con grandi zampe ed è contraddistinta dalla coda corta e dai tipici ciuffi all'estremità delle orecchie. Il colore del manto varia dal color crema al marrone, con macchie nere su tutto il corpo. Anche la punta della coda e i ciuffi delle orecchie sono neri. I maschi e le femmine si somigliano, anche se i maschi sono leggermente più grandi e più pesanti. I maschi pesano tra 20 e 45 chili, sono lunghi da 98 a 109 centimetri coda esclusa e sono alti al garrese tra 60 e 75 centimetri. Le femmine pesano tra 18 e 25 chili, sono lunghe tra 94 e 106 centimetri coda esclusa e sono alte al garrese tra 54 e 68 centimetri. La coda tronca è lunga tra 11 e 24 centimetri per entrambi i sessi.
