Il fennec è un piccolo canide che vive nel deserto del Sahara. La pelliccia di schiena, testa e coda è di color sabbia, mentre quella di zampe, ventre e volto è bianca. La caratteristica più distintiva del fennec sono le sue grandi orecchie appuntite. Il fennec è molto piccolo: è alto al garrese tra 18 e 22 centimetri e lungo dalla testa al corpo tra 34 e 40 centimetri. La coda può arrivare fino a 25 centimetri e le orecchie sono lunghe 9-10 centimetri. Il peso è compreso tra 0,8 e 1,9 chili. I maschi sono leggermente più grandi delle femmine. Il fennec non è considerato in pericolo. Le dimensioni della popolazione sono sconosciute, ma si pensa siano cospicue.
