Il pinguino reale (o Aptenodytes patagonicus patagonicus) è un grande uccello marino che vive nell'Oceano antartico e si riproduce nelle isole sub-antartiche, incluse le Falkland, e in Georgia del Sud. I pinguini reali hanno piume grigio scuro sulla schiena e sulle ali, bianche su petto e ventre. La testa è nera con la zona delle guance arancione acceso, e anche sul becco troviamo una striscia arancione. Il pinguino reale è altro tra i 70 e i 100 centimetri e pesa in media tra i 9 e i 14 chili. È la seconda specie più grande tra i pinguini dopo il pinguino imperatore.
