Das nordsulawesische Babirusa ist eine auf der indonesischen Insel Sulawesi sowie mehreren kleinen Inseln in deren Umgebung heimische Schweinerasse. Das nordsulawesische Babirusa ist kaum behaart und hat eine graue Haut. Babirusakeiler besitzen vier große, nach hinten gebogene Hauer. Das nordsulawesische Babirusa hat eine Körperlänge von 85-110 Zentimetern, eine Schwanzlänge von 29-32 Zentimetern und eine Schulterhöhe von 58-66 Zentimetern. Keiler wiegen zwischen 70 und 100 Kilogramm, Bachen zwischen 45 und 66 Kilogramm.

‘Babirusa’ means ‘pig deer’ in Malay.
Babirusas have a two chambered stomach, more like that of sheep than of other pigs.
The male babirusas tusks continue to grow throughout his life and can even grow into the skull.
Babirusas are missing a bone in the snout that other pigs have, so they do not engage in ‘rooting’ behaviour typical of pigs.
