De komodovaraan (of Varanus komodoensis) is een grote reptielensoort die voorkomt op de Indonesische eilanden Komodo, Rinca, Flores en Gili Motang. Ze hebben een doffe groen-bruine kleur, ver uit elkaar staande, gebogen poten, een lange, gespierde staart en een gele, gevorkte tong. De mannetjes hebben een gemiddelde lengte van 2,59 m en wegen tussen de 79 en 91 kg. De vrouwtjes zijn kleiner met een lengte van 2,29 m en een gewicht van 68 tot 73 kg.
