De emoe (of Dromaius novaehollandiae) is de een-na-grootste loopvogel op aarde. Alleen de struisvogel is groter. Emoes komen voor op de savannes en in de bossen van Australië. Ze hebben een lange, kale nek met soms een blauwe tint die vanaf het midden bedekt is met ruige, bruine veren, en lange, grijze poten met drie grote tenen. Ze hebben een grijze snavel, oranje ogen en pluimpjes veren boven op de kop. Mannetjes en vrouwtjes lijken sterk op elkaar, maar de vrouwtjes zijn meestal iets groter en zwaarder. Mannelijke emoes zijn 1,5 tot 1,8 m hoog en 1,39 tot 1,57 lang, en wegen tussen de 30 en 55 kg. De vrouwtjes worden 1,6 tot 1,9 m hoog en 1,5 tot 1,64 m lang, en wegen tussen de 35 en 60 kg.
