De struisvogel (of Struthio camelus) is de grootste vogel ter wereld. Mannetjes hebben zwarte veren, met witte veren op de uiteinden van de vleugels en de staart. Vrouwtjes hebben grijs-bruine veren. Bij beide geslachten zijn de kop, nek en poten roze tot wit van kleur. Verder zijn er nog kleine kleurverschillen afhankelijk van de herkomst van de vogel in Afrika. De mannetjes hebben een gemiddelde hoogte van 2,1 tot 2,8 m en de vrouwtjes 1,7 tot 2 m.
