미국 남부와 멕시코의 사막에서 자생하는 거대한 거미류인 자이언트데저트헤어리전갈(Hadrurus arizonensis)은 매복에 특화된 포식자입니다. 일반적으로 노란색이나 황갈색, 옅은 녹색을 띠며, 등은 어두운색입니다. 이 전갈은 모래나 바위 밑에 숨은 뒤 곤충이나 작은 척추동물을 침으로 공격합니다. 마비된 먹이는 전갈이 턱을 사용해 끌고 갑니다. 다 자란 성체는 길이가 10~18cm이며, 침이 주는 고통에 비해 실제로는 인간에게 크게 위험하지 않습니다.
