페넥여우는 사하라 사막에 서식하는 소형 갯과 동물입니다. 등과 머리, 꼬리의 털은 모래와 비슷한 색을 띠며 다리, 배, 얼굴은 흰색을 띱니다. 페넥여우는 매우 크고 뾰족한 귀가 특징입니다. 덩치가 아주 작고 어깨높이는 18~22cm이며 머리부터 몸길이는 34~40cm입니다. 꼬리 길이는 25cm이며 귀의 길이는 9~10cm입니다. 몸무게가 0.8kg~1.9kg 사이이며, 수컷은 암컷보다 덩치가 좀 더 큰 편입니다. 페넥여우는 멸종 위기종으로 취급되지 않으며, 알려진 개체 수 정보는 없지만 많은 것으로 추정되고 있습니다.
