フォッサ (Cryptoprocta ferox) はマダガスカルの森林地帯に生息する大型の哺乳類である。マダガスカルの肉食種、マダガスカルマングース科に属し、中でもフォッサは最大の種である。大半を樹上で生活するフォッサは猫のような細長い体型をしており、尾は体とほぼ同じ長さである。毛皮は均一な褐色である。耳が丸く、丸い鼻と猫のような黄色い目が特徴である。オスとメスはよく似ており、体長 61 cm ～ 80 cm、尾の長さが 60 cm ～ 75 cm である。体重は 5 kg ～ 9 kg である。
