ベンガルトラ (Panthera tigris tigris) はインド、バングラデシュ、ネパール、ブータン、そして中国西部が原産である。草原、森林、マングローブなどあらゆる環境で生息することができ、ヤギ、シカ、ウシなどヒヅメを持つ大きな動物 (まとめて有蹄動物と呼ばれる) を獲物とする。ベンガルトラは鮮やかなオレンジ色の毛皮と、茶色あるいは黒の縞模様と、大きな頭、筋肉質の四肢、そして大きな牙が特徴である。
