アカギツネ (Vulpes vulpes) は、ヨーロッパ、アジア、北アメリカ、アフリカ北部の地域に生息する中型のイヌ科動物である。茶色や黒が混ざった厚い赤毛で、腹部は白色。尾が長くフサフサしており、足が黒いのが特徴。オスは全長 96 cm ～ 115 cm で、その内、尾の長さが 32 cm ～ 38 cm。肩高は 35 cm ～ 50 cm、体重は 4.3 kg ～ 7.6 kg ある。メスは体が小さく体重も軽く、全長 91 cm ～ 110 cm で、その内、尾の長さが 30 cm ～ 36 cm。肩高は 33 cm ～ 47 cm、体重 3.4 kg ～ 6.1 kg である。
