L'orso polare (o Ursus maritimus) è una grande specie di orso che vive principalmente nel circolo polare artico e nelle regioni subartiche. Ha il pelo completamento bianco, occhi e naso scuri, è di stazza robusta e ha grandi zampe che gli permettono di nuotare agevolmente. Per minimizzare la perdita di calore, l'orso polare ha le orecchie piccole e la coda corta. I maschi sono lunghi tra i 2,4 e i 3 metri e pesano tra i 350 e i 750 chili, mentre le femmine sono lunghe tra 1,8 e 2,4 metri e pesano tra i 150 e i 250 chili. Entrambi i sessi si cibano di foche dagli anelli e foche barbate.
