La volpe rossa (o Vulpes vulpes) è un canide di medie dimensioni che vive in Europa, Asia e Nord America, oltre che in alcune zone del Nord Africa. La volpe rossa ha una folta pelliccia rossa con screziature marroni o nere e il ventre bianco. La coda è lunga e folta mentre le zampe sono nere. I maschi sono lunghi tra 96 e 115 centimetri, di cui tra 32 e 38 centimetri sono costituiti dalla coda, sono alti al garrese tra 35 e 50 centimetri e pesano tra 4,3 e 7,6 chili. Le femmine sono più piccole e leggere e sono lunghe tra 91 e 110 centimetri, con la coda che misura tra 30 e 36 centimetri, sono alte al garrese tra 33 e 47 centimetri e pesano tra 3,4 e 6,1 chili.
