El oso hormiguero gigante (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) es un mamífero de tamaño mediano que vive en las praderas y los bosques de Centroamérica y Sudamérica. Como su nombre indica, esta especie se alimenta casi exclusivamente de hormigas y termitas, y detecta los hormigueros por el olor, antes de excavar un agujero para alimentarse usando su lengua larga y pegajosa. El oso hormiguero gigante tiene un aspecto muy característico, con un largo hocico tubular, orejas y ojos pequeños, extremidades fuertes, áspera melena y cola espesa y densa. También tienen un patrón característico en el cuerpo: patas delanteras blancas, hocico gris y una raya negra que les atraviesa el pecho, garganta y hombros, con ásperas crines y colas de color negro a marrón.
