Como indica su nombre, el orangután de Borneo (Pongo pygmaeus) es nativo de la isla homónima, tanto de la parte indonesia como de la malaya. Son unos grandes simios reconocibles por su pelaje rojizo y su piel marrón. Los machos, además, presentan unas grandes bridas en las mejillas y una bolsa en la garganta con la que emiten sonidos fuertes para atraer a las hembras. Son unos animales extremadamente inteligentes que utilizan herramientas para conseguir comida. Sin embargo, no saben nadar y su territorio suele quedar delimitado por aquellos ríos que no consiguen atravesar.
