El wómbat común (Vombatus ursinus), también conocido como wómbat de pelo áspero, es un marsupial que habita en matorrales y bosques del sudeste de Australia y Tasmania. Tiene el cuerpo redondo y achaparrado, las patas cortas y musculosas y el hocico achatado. Su cuerpo está cubierto por un áspero pelaje pardo. Mide entre 90 y 115 cm de largo desde el hocico hasta los cuartos traseros y pesa entre 22 y 39 kilos. No hay diferencias externas evidentes entre los machos y las hembras.
