El caballo de Przewalski (Equus ferus przewalskii), también conocido como takhi, caballo salvaje mongol o caballo de Zungaria, es una especie de caballo salvaje que vive en las estepas de Mongolia. Se trata de un caballo más pequeño y de constitución más robusta que la mayoría de especies de équidos que mide entre 2,1 y 2,6 m de largo, y alcanza entre 1,2 y 1,5 m de alto hasta los hombros. Los ejemplares maduros pesan entre 250 y 360 kg y, aunque no existe un dimorfismo sexual muy evidente en esta especie, los machos pueden ser ligeramente más grandes que las hembras. Su pelaje es marrón anaranjado con un vientre más pálido y presentan una melena negra de crines erectas, una cola negra de pelo espeso y patas negras.

The exact taxonomic status of Przewalski’s horse is still debated, some arguing it is a subspecies of what became the domestic horse, while others classify it as a separate species of wild horse.
Przewalski’s horse has 33 chromosomal pairs, whereas modern domestic horses have 32, indicating they became genetically separate long ago.
In 2020, the first cloned Przewalski’s horse was born as part of an assisted breeding programme. The foal was created using a frozen cell from a stallion that died in 1998 and is hoped to add much needed genetic diversity back into the population.
