Der Komodowaran (Varanus komodoensis) ist eine Waranart, die nur auf den indonesischen Inseln Komodo, Rinca, Flores und Gili Motang vorkommt. Die Tiere haben eine stumpfe, grünlich-braune Färbung, breite Gliedmaßen, die weit auseinanderstehen, einen langen, kräftigen Schwanz und eine gelbliche, gespaltene Zunge. Männchen werden im Schnitt 2,59 Meter lang und wiegen zwischen 79 und 91 Kilogramm. Die Weibchen sind kleiner, im Schnitt nur 2,29 Meter lang und zwischen 68 und 73 Kilogramm schwer.
