Der Afrikanische Strauß (Struthio camelus) ist der größte uns bekannte Vogel der Welt. Hähne haben schwarze Körperfedern und weiße Federn an den Flügel- und Schwanzspitzen, während Hennen graubraune Körperfedern aufweisen. Bei beiden Geschlechtern sind Kopf, Hals und Beine rosa bis weiß. Abhängig von ihrem jeweiligen Herkunftsort in Afrika können unterschiedliche Farbvarianten beobachtet werden. Hähne sind im Durchschnitt 2,1 bis 2,8 Meter groß, die kleineren Hennen erreichen eine Größe von 1,7 bis zwei Metern.
