Das Weißschwanzgnu (Connochaetes gnou) ist eine große Huftierart aus Südafrika. Der Name Gnu leitet sich vom markanten Ruf ab, den diese Tiere bei Gefahr ausstoßen. Diese Art ist an ihrer braunschwarzen Fellfärbung und den L-förmigen Hörnern zu erkennen. Die Bullen sind größer und dunkler als die Kühe. Beide Geschlechter haben dichte, buschige Mähnen und lange, pferdeähnliche Schwänze. Sie sind zwischen 1,7 und 2,2 Meter lang, haben eine Schulterhöhe von 1,06 bis 1,21 Meter und ein Gewicht von 120 bis 193 Kilogramm.
