紅河豬 (Potamochoerus porcus) 原生於西非和中非的河流、湖泊和沼澤，是小型的豬科動物。牠們的身體上覆蓋著鮮豔的紅色毛皮，有黑色的臉部、腿部、尾巴和耳朵。耳朵上帶有長長的黑白色簇毛，背部有一條細細的白色毛髮，臉部和耳朵周圍有粗糙的白色毛皮。紅河豬是雌雄異型，雄性一般要比雌性體性大且體重較重，具有較寬的頭骨，上頭有突出的骨骼，並且臉上有長長的鬍鬚。紅河豬頭部加身體的長度為 100 公分至 150 公分，肩高為 50 公分至 80 公分，體重為 45 公斤至 115 公斤。
