黃鳳蝶 (Papilio machaon) 棲息在歐洲、亞洲和北美洲，可在溫帶地區、林地甚至是苔原發現其蹤跡。牠有淺黃色的翅膀，前翅上有灰黑色的圖案，後翅上有黑藍的強調色和紅色眼狀斑點。後翅上也有延伸的「尾巴」，因此牠們又稱為燕尾蝶。黃鳳蝶沒有表現出雌雄異型，體型和外觀相差無幾，且平均翼展危 6.5 至 8.6 公分。毛毛蟲體型豐滿，呈現淺綠色，且身體的每一節都有黑色和橙色的標記。
