九帶犰狳 (Dasypus novemcinctus) 可見於草原、雨林和乾燥灌木林，是一種原生於北美洲、中美洲和南美洲的披甲哺乳類動物。在九帶犰狳的分布範圍中共有九個亞種，不同亞種之間的外表相當多樣。一般而言，九帶犰狳的肩部和臀部覆有巨大片狀的灰粉色斑駁甲殼，軀幹部分則有九節代表性的鱗甲，最後則是覆有鱗甲的長尾巴。牠們的腿較短，有大大的腳和堅硬的爪子：前腳有四根爪子，後腳有五根。臉部細長，有尖尖的口鼻部和大耳朵。九帶犰狳頭部加身體的長度約 38 至 58 公分，另外還有 26 至 53 公分長的尾巴。測量到甲殼頂端的身高為 15 至 25 公分。雄性可能比雌性重，雄性體重介於 5.5 至 7.7 公斤之間，雌性則為 3.6 至 6 公斤之間，除此之外，雌雄個體的特徵皆相似。
