鑽紋龜是原生於美國東部及南部半鹹水和海岸沼澤地區的小型海龜，龜殼上含有深淺色同心環的「鑽石形」相連花紋是其主要特徵。然而其個體間的花紋和色澤有著相當大的差異。雄鑽紋龜的龜殼平均長約 13 公分，雌龜龜殼則平均長 17 公分。
