九带犰狳 (Dasypus novemcinctus) 可见于草原、雨林和干燥灌木丛，是一种原生于北美洲、中美洲和南美洲的披甲哺乳类动物。在九带犰狳的分布范围中共有九个亚种，不同亚种之间的外表相当多样。一般而言，九带犰狳的肩部和臀部覆有巨大片状的灰粉色斑驳甲壳，躯干部分则有九节代表性的鳞甲，最后则是覆有鳞甲的长尾巴。它们的腿较短，有大大的脚和坚硬的爪子：前脚有四根爪子，后脚有五根。脸部细长，有尖尖的口鼻部和大耳朵。九带犰狳头部加身体的长度约 38 至 58 厘米，另外还有 26 至 53 厘米长的尾巴。测量到甲壳顶端的身高为 15 至 25 厘米。雄性可能比雌性重，雄性体重介于 5.5 至 7.7 公斤之间，雌性则为 3.6 至 6 公斤之间，除此之外，雌雄个体的特征皆相似。
