加州海狮是原产于美国西部和墨西哥海岸地区的海狮科动物。这种海狮通常是深棕色，两侧和腹部的颜色较浅，但有部分雌性是淡棕色。幼海狮的外观极为不同，具有褐色的蓬松幼年毛皮，这层毛皮会在 5 至 7 个月大时脱落，并长出成年毛皮。雄性加州海狮体长 2.25 至 2.5 米，体重 250 至 350 公斤。雌性体型要小得多，体长 1.8 至 2.1 米，体重 80 至 100 公斤。
