南白犀是一种大型有蹄类动物，原生于非洲南部 (南非、纳米比亚、津巴布韦、肯尼亚、乌干达、赞比亚)。它们的体型巨大宽厚，有厚实的灰色皮肤。南白犀有两支角，前侧的角比后侧的角长上许多。南白犀有几乎呈长方形的头部和方形的吻部。它们的头顶有凸出的耳朵，脖子底部的肌肉组织则形成肉峰来支撑头部。雄性南白犀体长为 3.7 至 4 米，身高 170 至 188 厘米，平均体重为 2,300 公斤。雌性的体长为 3.4 至 3.65 米，身高 160 至 177 厘米，平均体重为 1,700 公斤。
