Белый медведь (или Ursus maritimus) — крупный представитель семейства медвежьих, обитающий в Северном полярном круге и приполярных районах. У них полностью белая шерсть, тёмные глаза и тёмный нос, плотное телосложение, а также крепкие лапы с большими ступнями, приспособленные для плавания. У белых медведей небольшой размер ушей и хвоста — что позволяет уменьшить теплоотдачу. Длина тела самцов составляет от 2,4 до 3 м, а вес от 350 до 750 кг. В то же время длина тела самок может достигать от 1,8 до 2,4 м, а вес от 150 до 250 кг. Представители обоих полов питаются кольчатыми нерпами и лахтаками.
