Полосатые вараны (Varanus salvator) — крупные рептилии, обитающие в тропических лесах, болотах и мангровых зарослях в большей части тёплых регионов Юго-Восточной Азии и Индийского субконтинента. Окрас от тёмно-зелёного до чёрного с бледно-коричневыми и жёлтыми сетчатыми отметинами по всему телу. Эти отметки часто проявляются в виде полос на хвосте. У полосатых варанов ярко выражен половой диморфизм: самцы крупнее самок. У самцов длина тела варьируется от 1,5 до 2 м, а вес от 5 до 50 кг — в среднем он составляет 20 кг. У самок же длина тела варьируется от 1,2 до 1,8 м, а вес — от 2 до 22 кг.
