Комодский варан (Varanus komodoensis) — большая рептилия, обитающая на индонезийских островах Комодо, Ринча, Флорес и Гили-Мотанг. У него тёмно-бурая однотонная кожа, широко поставленные конечности, длинный мускулистый хвост и раздвоенный язык. Длина тела среднего самца достигает 2,59 м, а вес обычно составляет от 79 до 91 кг. При этом самки меньше самцов: они весят от 68 до 73 кг, а длина их тела обычно составляет около 2,29 м.
