Птицеед-голиаф (Theraphosa blondi) — чрезвычайно крупная разновидность тарантула, обитающая в тропических лесах и болотах Суринама, Гайаны, Французской Гвианы, Бразилии и Венесуэлы. Этот паук коричневого цвета покрыт красно-коричневыми волосками и обладает массивным животом, крупной и округлой грудью, толстыми членистыми ногами и длинными педипальпами (ногощупальцами). Самка птицееда крупнее самца; у особей обоих полов на кончике живота есть выраженные придатки — «паутинные бородавки», посредством которых пауки плетут паутину. Птицееды-голиафы применяют паутину для плетения мешочков для яиц и переноса спермы, но не используют её на охоте.
