Махаон (Papilio machaon) — вид бабочек, обитающий в регионах умеренного климата, в лесах и даже тундрах Европы, Азии и Северной Америки. У махаона две пары бледно-жёлтых крыльев, передние крылья покрыты серо-чёрным рисунком, задние — сине-чёрными узорами с красными пятнами в виде глаз. У задних крыльев есть удлинённые «хвостики», характерные для всего рода хвостоносцев. У махаонов отсутствует половой диморфизм. Средний размах их крыльев составляет от 6,5 до 8,6 см. Гусеница толстая, бледно-зелёная с чёрно-оранжевыми отметинами на каждом сегменте.
