Павлиний глаз (Aglais io) — вид бабочек, обитающий на полях и в лесах умеренного пояса Европы и Азии. У них четыре крыла красного цвета с коричневой каймой и характерными пятнами, похожими на глаза. Эти пятна образуются жёлтыми, синими, красными или фиолетовыми чешуйками, они окружены черным окаймлением. Нижняя сторона крыльев коричневая или чёрная. Самцы и самки выглядят одинаково, при этом самки несколько крупнее самцов — до 10%. Размах крыльев павлиньего глаза — от 5 см до 6,4 см. Гусеницы чёрные, волосатые, а куколки — зелёные с шипастым гребнем на спине.
