Гривистые волки (Chrysocyon brachyurus) — вид псовых, обитающий в лесах, степях и на равнинах Аргентины, Бразилии, Парагвая и Уругвая. Они обязаны своим названием густой тёмной гриве, спускающейся от основания шеи до лопаток. У гривистого волка длинные и тонкие лапы, он выглядит худым и поджарым. Тело волка покрыто косматым рыжим мехом, на лапах мех короткий, чёрный. Самцы и самки гривистого волка одного размера и внешне неотличимы, рост в холке у них варьируется от 73 до 95 см, длина без хвоста — от 95 до 115 см, хвост добавляет ещё 30–40 см. Весят животные от 20 до 29 кг.
