Белохвостый гну (Connochaetes gnou) — это большое копытное, обитающее в Южной Африке. Название «гну» это животное получило из-за характерного звука, который оно издаёт, почувствовав опасность. Представителей этого вида легко узнать по характерной чёрно-коричневой шкуре и большим Г-образным рогам. У самцов шерсть темнее, чем у самок, и сами они немного больше. У обоих полов густая пышная грива и хвост, похожий на лошадиный. Длина тела в среднем составляет от 1,7 до 2,2 м, рост в холке — от 1,06 до 1,21 м, а вес — от 120 до 193 кг.
