Королевские пингвины (или Aptenodytes patagonicus patagonicus) — большие водные птицы, обитающие в Антарктике и гнездящиеся на субантарктических островах, включая Фолклендские острова и Южную Георгию. У королевских пингвинов тёмно-серое оперение на спине и плавниках и белое на груди и животе. Горло у этих птиц окрашено в жёлтый цвет, голова чёрная, на щеках и клюве присутствуют оранжевые пятна. Рост королевских пингвинов составляет от 70 до 100 см, а вес варьирует от 9 до 14 кг. Среди всех пингвинов этот вид второй по величине и уступает только императорским пингвинам.
